Many people are hesitant to purchase online in this real estate market because they feel such a special buy is too important for the Internet. But the truth is, most buyers find land for sale and their homes online— Just a little over 50%. That’s incredible when you consider that in 2021, six million existing homes were sold.

The old ways are not always the best ways.

Walking into a real estate office, flipping through a catalog, and being guided by a real estate expert— This all feels like the way to do it. Offices make the transaction feel legitimate and lend credibility to the entire process, while the real estate agent brings a human face to what can be a long and arduous process. But this is the old paradigm. The new paradigm is obvious.

Unless you do your research or know the agent, you might be getting in over your head. Some are no better than used car salesmen and carnival hucksters. And by the time you’re in a house dealing with minor cosmetic repairs or something much worse, that’s no time to wish you had explored things more fully online.

The Internet changed the way we buy.

 No one buys a car without checking out a car buying website these days. With enough research, you can go armed into the dealership with the exact number you’ll pay. You’re not going to get stuck with a lot of unnecessary add-ons you don’t need.  Unfortunately for the salesman, there’s almost no negotiating with a well-informed buyer. Why should real estate be any different?

With three million active real estate licensees and over a hundred thousand real estate brokerage firms in the U.S., there are many sharks in the water vying for your business. But they’re not always looking out for your interests, when there’s land for sale that’s where a property-buying website comes in.

Whether you’re just looking at properties on GPS maps online or drilling down into pertinent information with more specialized property buy websites, leveraging the tips you find on your own will save you money in the long run. This is probably why on average, Americans spent three days less house hunting in 2019 than they did in previous years. With the housing market that’s been increasingly competitive and with the vast majority of real estate agents using the Internet for their work, you have to ask yourself how you cannot give yourself the same advantage.
